Information. Research. Development.
Catalpa International is a Timor Leste based not-for-profit organisation that provides information technology solutions to assist with capacity development and organisational management. The organisation focusses on how data collection, transmission and dissemination can create exponential gains within and across a number of sectors.
Catalpa has been engaged in Timor Leste since 2007, and has built a strong and reliable foundation in implementing effective information and communication solutions in rural Timor. Catalpa is building on its successes and experience in Timor, and expanding its operations on a larger scale.
This strategy is led by the cornerstone Net-i-Foho wireless communications project - a leading project in providing a technological solution to the communication and information sharing shortfalls in regional Timor Leste. Catalpa's wireless network stretches over 42 km2 in the Ermera District and connects more than 25 essential service organisation, including the district hospital, administration and the local police services.
In addition, Catalpa International has established internet access in Atauro and Oe-cussi, and is implementing a similar network as that present in Ermera.
In rural health care, Catalpa International, in partnership with the St Bakhita Health Clinic and St John of God Health Care in Timor Leste, has developed a patient health database. This system operates as a general purpose electronic medical record system that offers the ability to track and store patient health data and provide public health information to help assist community wide health programs. This system has been operational for over a year, and contains information on thousands of individual consults.
Catalpa is developing further initiatives that can benefit from access to a wireless communication network and data tracking, these include e-health, pharmaceutical management, information systems for micro-finance, and further deployments of its wireless networking infrastructure.
Also in Catalpa's portfolio are a number of other Information Communications Technology projects. The organisation is partnering with Monash University to further examine ways in which information and communications technologies can be utilised in a developing context.
Catalpa is providing ICT skills and knowledge to assist CCT Clinics in order to improve logistics co-ordination and internal information management.
Catalpa is also working with Moris Rasik - Timor's largest micro-finance organisation - to help them reach a broader base of clients, increase the efficiency of its current operations, and expand the economic impacts of its work.
Catalpa International is comprised of a mix of Timorese and International staff, and it is committed to the long term development of Timor Leste's ICT sector and the professional development of its staff. The organisation has offices in Dili, Timor Leste, and a regional office in the Ermera District.
At Catalpa, we care about people and their communities. We acknowledge our environmental, social and community obligations. Meeting those obligations is important to us, our customers and the community, and contributes to our aim to conduct our operations in a sustainable manner.
