Catalpa International would like to congratulate its current board member Professor Simon Adams for his recent appointment as head of the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (GCR2P) in New York.
Australia's Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd announced the appointment early last week, stating that he is ‘pleased that the Global Centre for R2P in New York is to be headed by the distinguished Australian academic Professor Simon Adams.'
Catalpa International's Managing Director, Mr David Roach said that "We are delighted to hear of Simon's recent appointment to GCR2P, he continues to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to Catalpa and its endeavors, we wish him well in his new position'.
GCR2P was created in February 2008 to catalyze action to move the responsibility to protect populations from genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes and crimes against humanity from principle into practice.
The Centre was founded by leading figures in government and academia, as well as by International Crisis Group, Human Rights Watch, Oxfam International, Refugees International, and WFM-Institute for Global Policy.
Prof Adam's has worked in the field of international education for more than 15 years. He has a Ph.D from the University of New South Wales in Sydney and has lectured at a number of Australian, European, North American and African universities. He most recently served as Pro Vice Chancellor (International Engagement) at Monash University - Australia's largest and most globalized University.
Prof Adams is a specialist in conflict studies and international development, he has worked extensively with NGO's, governments and grassroots community organisations in South Africa, Northern Ireland, East Timor, Rwanda, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and elsewhere.
